Effectiveness of Conflict Management Strategies in Polytechnics Administration in Osun State, Nigeria

This study investigated the effectiveness of conflict management strategies in the administration of polytechnics in Osun State, Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study comprised teaching staff, non-teaching staff, management, and trade union executive members of public and private polytechnics in the State. The sample consisted of 204 respondents. Members of teaching and non-teaching staff were selected using simple random sampling technique. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting management and trade union executive members. Four self-designed questionnaires were used for data collection. Data collected were analysed using frequency counts, percentages and Pearson's Product Moment Correlation statistics. Communication gap was found to be the main cause of conflicts, while collective bargaining, and participatory decision making strategies greatly influenced conflict.
