Reinventing the Nigerian Nation through Refocused Skills, Innovation, Enterprise, and Curriculum Review: Thinking Outside the Box

Nigeria is blessed with both human and non-human resources. With these abundant resources, one would ordinarily expect that the nation's status would have changed from being a developing nation to a developed one. Nigeria, since independence, has been besieged with myriads of problems that have hampered her advancement. Notably among these problems is youth unemployment. The authors, therefore, argued that refocused skills, innovations, enterprise and review of the curricula of educational institutions are the ways by which the nation can escape the hold of unemployment that has hindered her growth for so long. In order to achieve these, the authors recommend the following: an effective and efficient mechanism for reviewing the curricula of higher education institutions, skill acquisition should be a credible icing to the formal education curricular cake, provision of funds towards upgrading the existing digital infrastructure in all public educational institutions, and strengthening the existing relationship between research institutions and the industries.
