Abstract

The recent outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic coupled with various security issues in the country has created imminent educational issues and challenges for adult education to remedy. This has engendered the country's inability to attain certain educational goals. An example of such target is the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) whose objective is to ensure “inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning for all'. This paper, therefore, focused on the professionalisation of adult education with the view of addressing the potential problems that affect the achievement of the SDG 4 as well as bringing to fore issues bedeviling the professionalisation of adult education, which could be seen as an essential factor in attaining the SDG 4. The paper concluded that adult education and lifelong learning is as important as general formal education and must be treated as such if the SDG 4 is to be attained within the set time. It recommended, among others, formulation and implementation of policies as well as putting in place relevant machinery for the professionalisation of adult education in the country.
